Global professional services firm Accenture and mining company Anglo American have extended their technology services agreement to support Anglo American`s digital initiatives. The new agreement is expected to run until 2023, with Accenture`s expertise in analytics, cloud, and cyber security continuing to support Anglo American`s digital growth.
The extension of the agreement highlights the increasing importance of digital transformation for companies across industries. In a press release, David Ovadia, Anglo American`s Chief Information Officer, emphasized the importance of technology in driving efficiency and growth in the mining industry.
“Technology plays a critical role in the mining industry, from improving safety and productivity to reducing costs and managing environmental and social impacts. Our ongoing partnership with Accenture has been instrumental in driving our digital transformation, and we look forward to continuing to work together to leverage technology to support our business goals,” said Ovadia.
The agreement between Accenture and Anglo American was first signed in 2015, with Accenture supporting Anglo American`s technology transformation journey. Since then, the partnership has helped Anglo American achieve significant improvements in productivity and efficiency, including reducing operational costs and enhancing safety performance.
With the extension of the agreement, Accenture will continue to support Anglo American`s digital initiatives, including the development of new digital solutions and capabilities to drive growth and innovation in the mining sector. The partnership will also focus on cyber security, with Accenture providing support for Anglo American`s security operations center and incident response capabilities.
The agreement comes as the mining industry faces significant challenges, including declining ore grades, increasing complexity, and changing stakeholder expectations. However, by leveraging digital technologies such as analytics and cloud computing, mining companies like Anglo American can transform their operations to drive growth and sustainability.
“The mining industry is facing unprecedented challenges, and digital transformation is key to unlocking new opportunities and driving innovation,” said Jean-Marc Ollagnier, CEO of Accenture in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. “We are proud to continue supporting Anglo American in their technology transformation journey, helping them to leverage the latest digital technologies to drive growth and sustainability.”
